One (version I)

One came with piercing eyes
                        dark as the raven
                        He brought golden promises
                        But his heart was fleeting
                        and he crept silently away
                        cloaked by night's deception
                        and betrayal's companion...greed.

                        One came with endless eyes
                        blue as the summer sky
He brought me dreams bought on sale
                        pain made from scratch and
                        lust born from envy.
He slammed the door -- I couldn't knock
Choked my thoughts and I couldn't breathe
                        and upon leaving...
never did he say a word.

                        One came with eyes
                        brown like a child's bear
                        He brought security and contentment
                        hapiness never found in fairytales
                        He was honest and kind
                        He stayed near my heart
                        bound by promise and vow

Then one came with penetrating eyes
                        blue oceans in my dreams
                        my soul's journey,
                        my heart's companion,
                        my mind's inspiration
He held my words so deeply
He brought one shell from the land
because he said he could not bring me
                        his whole island
