Anniversary

Three revealing words
                        and some years ago
                        though it seemed like I already knew you
                        I took your hand
                        and started an unfamiliar climb
                        Up the steepest hills
                        and holding onto the intertwined branches
                        you offered to me
                        without reservation
                        beneath your hesitant protection
                        behind that glass wall
                        steel trust
                        around your heart’s unwavering faith
                        Remembering the kiss
                        and the chilling fall
                        How softly we would land
                        tied together with threads and strings
                        upon a bed of wireless thoughts and dreams
                        until your mind touched mine;
                        those arms of strength embraced me
                        sweet flesh and love
                        silently bringing your soul home
                        Like the dove’s permanent promise of peace
                        soaring gently into my heart
                        Like a calm, synchronized rain
                        inside of an infinite storm
                        our story unfolded a paradox
                        into a path of resistance and fear,
                        immeasurable happiness,
                        infinite desires
                        Passion came in many forms
                        and rode the waves of uncertainty;
                        Tears for the pain
                        and a place called Asia
                        where it might have begun
                        became the oasis to our hope
                        and the bench for our survival
                        The creation of life
                        or the intent to bloom forth
                        another complete and separate us
                        emerged as selfless inspiration
                        to our determined hearts
                        Far apart at times
                        yet closer than the petals to a rose
                        We chose to live,
                        We chose to love
                        May flowers grew brighter
                        With green grass growing
                        into sunshine’s laughter
                        because we chose each other
                        My love cannot repay
                        the cost of emotional freedom,
                        the priceless amount
                        of breath, life, and more
                        that you have given to us
                        But it will never fail to try

                        under the same skies of faith

                        in this parallel universe
