Rain drops
mixed with the scent of a passing storm
slightly lingered on the window sill
But unable to resist the sun's warmth,
even with the wind's brief chill
they would soon disappear
as quickly and quietly as
they had arrived
Slipping into her gown -
body still bound by his midnight kisses
looking into the mirror
she smiled
I like your smile
Her cheeks, still flushed from the memories
filled with the passion of a rose's red
remembered the softness and the sound
of the evening's whispered voices in her head;
how his words healed her soul
like a light touch on a wounded scar
Alone in the world
sleeping flowers to wake soon
she stood motionless in the room
captivated by the bright bouquet of
colorful, thoughtful loveliness
She smiled again
I like your smile
Placing each cup and saucer
into its comfortable space
her fingers carefully traced
the outside rim
where his lips had been
And right there
in the slow rising of the morning sun
she felt him come home once more
for a long and gentle embrace
