June

Chattering green leaves
                        rustling in the breeze
                        Mud covered hands
                        and grass on their knees
                        Laughter floats around
                        like balloons on air
I love the way the sunlight shines -
                        happiness everywhere
                        Sparkling eyes filled with wonder
                        constant curiosity
                        Little minds discovering
                        what we will never see...
                        Bicycles on the driveway
                        waiting to be ridden
                        Insects creep and crawl
from the earth where they were hidden
                        Popsicles are melting
                        from the afternoon heat
                        Cookies fresh from the oven
                        make the day so sweet
Soccer balls roll with the wind
as if the ghosts are there
                        Sandbox shovels and pails
are filled to the rim with care
And all of this to my heart
                        feels like paradise in bloom
                        A loving observation of
                        three little boys in June
