I remember meeting
One fence
between us
The smell of crisp fall air
her blue jacket
and her smile
Throwing leaves
as if they were raindrops of friendship
New to September
forever to us
In one moment
we became inseperable
I remember her room
Holly Hobby pink and white
perfect like a fairytale
White eyelet pillows trimmed
with colorful ribbons everywhere
as if rainbows blessed her room
Tall shelves held books
so many stories
amazing animals
faraway places
mysteries
we read each one
I remember her laugh
and her pigtails silky and yellow
Giggling with secrets
we would run into the woods
Daring were we
Spies
Fair maidens
Rulers of the universe
Explorers
I remember packing my red bag
off to the sleepover
Popcorn all night
coloring our masterpieces
Her mother warning us
a tenth time
and even after the lights dimmed
still talking in our dreams...
I remember my first best friend
