Inconsistent

Release the danger
Inspire the sights and sounds
Of something greater
Softest rustling of leaves around
Cover my sighs with the softest pink
Even the sturdiest of ships will eventually sink

Blue

Pride comes before all that I knew
Even when I need your help like now
The hurt little girl who ran to you
Skinned knees, twisted faith, falling down
Fears have all but multiplied today
And I can’t cry for words my lips betray…
Rainbow bruises cover my scratched heart
Mismatched scars from wooden bars
Late nights on a cloud– cursing your stars
No knocking on the door
Or whispers like before…
It will be okay
Not tomorrow.
Not today.
And I won’t cry for the memories that don’t fade.
Black are the memories that were once so blue
The aging woman who runs from you.

Twinge

Wistful and wayward
parting from your cold
A  day in the life
that you never told
I see it dying
to have none to hold
Ignoring and lying
we'll never find gold
This journey won't take me
back to your soul
Twisting and turning
away from your cold
Wistful and wayward
we'll never grow old -
together.

Equation

The death of a dream that never came true
My heart mourns the painful back-stab of fate
New chances seem old, old chances seem new
Irrational fears begin to translate
into confusion about what I've done
destroyed many lives systematically
proving that I will just end up alone
This can't be proven mathematically
No logic applied, or reason explains
the possible answers missed between years
No magic equation can contain
the algorithm for infinite tears
If I could substitute the right numbers
my dreams could exist in peaceful slumber

Kidney

An organ that functions
without its other half,
an overlooked piece
of a blackened polygraph.
Straight lines turned to lies
and were carried away
while the tissues rotted
full of decay
Dehydrated prayers
now hooked to machines,
and artificial hope
keeps one functioning
until it gives way to the internal bleeding
no one considers -
no one even sees.

Feather

I watched the small feather fall to the ground.
It seemed quite confused, unable to land
in the perfect place where it could be found,
carried delicately by someone's hand.
Then turned my attention to six children
listened intently about bosses, games
characters, scores and strategies to win.
Backed out the car and we were on our way,
the fallen feather watched me slowly drive
down the long street until I disappeared,
curled into itself, attempting to hide
how alone it felt in the grassy field;
I composed this song from a fleeting thought;
a metaphor for the love I have lost

Sieve

a tiny hole in the heart
becomes a tear in the soul
when the damage done
is never repaired
