Balance

A softest voice
                        from somewhere within
                        my sleep bringing dreams
                        Perhaps it's my conscience
                        when smiling upon
                        a different day
                        or finding a penny
                        shined and cleaned
                        Umbrella for your thoughts
                        he asks
                        sun catching rays
                        of a lighter memory
                        my fingers wrapping
                        silk brown threads of summer
                        in circling motions of
                        intentional bliss
                        Just waiting for a kiss
                        she thinks sadly
                        Just waiting for the kiss
                        And the lips
                        hiding somewhere closeby
                        tremble and sigh
                        A new troubled desire
                        flickers on and off
                        like the lightswitch
                        on the invisible wall
                        Walk out into the world
                        he begins
                        But her steps
                        twice as cautious
                        three times as swift
                        Four times ahead...
                        have taken her further
                        than the world will allow...
                        Balance
                        she urges
                        trying to float
                        upon the notes
                        in one Last Song
                        plunging over the falls
                        swimming to escape
                        the rough peaks of water
                        Her left hand reaches up
                        high above her heart
                        and her right arm
                        remains numb at her side
                        Is she desperately
                        needing to be rescued
                        or is she simply trying
                        to fly home

Intentional Typo

The son
                        not rising as high
                        as the moon's complement
                        Time giving into life
                        for the importance
                        of a simple thought
                        There is always a way
at the quiet of day into night
                        Will you find it

Looking At The Clouds

Lying in a pool of clouds
                        sickened at the thoughts
The irrevocable sights and sounds -
                        Sharp and pentetrating
                        deadened grasses beneath me
                        at the priceless cost
                        of tearing my silent soul
                        Will I forever be lost...

                        Cold and tired
                        of lies and schemes
                        My tears like nails
                        piercing his skin
                        I lay down my burden
                        for a restless dream
                        partnered with such emptiness
                        or so it seems...

                        Speaking from a voice
                        that does not hold truth
                        curbing my tongue aside
                        To withhold the stranger
                        a memory in dillusion
                        inside of my thoughts
                        Dismissing his tainted pride
                        upon some darkened night...

                        Life drizzles lonliness
                        patterned from random devotion
                        and embarrassment will reign
                        when the ukempt passion ignites
                        the fiery tree top sways
                        while smoldering ashes remain
                        until cleansed by the rain...

                        and if so...

                        When does the grass
                        become green again

Slight Memory

Quietly packing the suitcase
she looks over at the sleeping smiles
where will the miles take her
                        Far away from here
                        with hope as her guide
                        and strength as her shelter
She notices a slip of paper
inconspicuously hanging out of a drawer
                        scrawled in red
                        unfamiliar handwriting
                        thinking of you...
                        Seems so long ago
                        that she dotted her i's
                        with such meticulous care

Finding You Home

Will his arms
                        so strong
                        protective
                        comforting
                        embrace me?
                        My weakness
                        surrendering
                        willingly
                        confidently
                        lovingly...
                        to the feeling of
                        finally being home
                        found deep within
                        the power of his
                        passionate kiss...

                        I dream of this

Runner's Mind

She runs faster and farther
                        than her mind will allow
                        stationary though
                        where will she go?
                        Escaping the moment
                        like the sweat trickling down
                        her flushed cheek
                        Stubborn conscience absorbing
                        each thought
                        creeping into her
                        stoic smile
                        Barred teeth
                        ready for the kill
                        prepare for the storm
                        she thinks to herself
                        Rain can be so relentless
when the tears start to fall...
                        Feet pound the pavement
                        she watches the cars
                        speeding past her
Caught up in your morning rush
                        are you really that focused?
Too busy to stop for a wave
                        eventually the crash becomes
                        the saving grace...
                        What's happened
                        to the smallest voice
                        that lived inside
                        the runner's mind
                        She shakes her head
                        and wipes the moisture -
                        never a tear
                        from her face
                        Shielding her eyes
                        from an unforgiving sun
                        The road ahead looks rocky
                        twists and turns
                        mock her ability
                        to overcome impossibilty
                        Sneering brambles
                        Glaring dead ends
                        behind the prize --
                        only an uphill stride
                        Grey skies loom
                        But gritting her courage
                        biting her lip
                        anxiously awaiting
                        the challenge...
                        uphill stride
                        her thoughts echo
                        uphill stride...
                        uphill stride...
                        clenching her fists
                        taking the first step
                        setting rythm and pace
                        uphill stride...
                        uphill stride...
                        all the way...
just the way I like it

The Difference

He looked down at his fingers
                        the ones that had...
                        He pretended not to think
                        as she attempted to speak
                        Intent upon a slight hangnail
                        disturbing his perfect hands
                        He gently pulled at it
"It's going to leave a jagged edge"
                        he thought to himself
only half listening to her silent heart
                        breaking in the reflection
                        of the car window
                        He could see the silhouette
the faintly mirrored outline of the tree
                        the same tree they had...
                        He shuddered to think
                        "Seems taller now, doesn't it?"
                        her voice broke
                        Shifting his aimless thoughts
                        he noticed still
even after making up his mind
she touched the depths of his soul
                        with a word
She could be saying nothing at all
and he would still feel her
lips forming letters upon his heart
words playing songs into his mind
laughter like rain on a summer day
Her smile could be the sun
                        on an eclipsed world...
                        "Not trying to change you"
                        she cautiously continued
                        interrupting his melting resignation
"asking you for anything other than -"
her breath caught up to her
                        Their eyes met
                        They both knew
                        and wanted to run back
                        into each other's arms
                        Forget the struggle
                        it's worth it
                        Ignore the doubts
                        they can be overcome
                        He cleared his throat
                        a gruff, hurried sound
she did not recognize it as
his turning point of deciding to stay
                        with her
                        in her arms
                        inside of her heart
                        where he belonged
                        "Nevermind" she thought aloud
                        "it's no use when someone
runs so far just to be away from me.."
                        You're only making it worse
                        "let him hurt you"
                        her thoughts betrayed her
                        There was an unbelievable edge
                        to her usual soft voice
                        "Protection" she defended
                        Sacred ground when crushing
                        my tender heart
                        The one that he had...
                        She trembled to think

                        Leaving him with a kiss
                        just above his brow
                        She rememered his words
                        I could do it again
                        I did it before
                        And he was right
                        The difference
                        she thought to herself
as she bit her lip into silence
is that I would never want to
                        before
                        again
                        or after
                        So why would you

                        He watched her walk away
                        step after step she fell
                        a little further in sadness
                        He could taste the tears
                        she tried to hide
                        Her confused mind
                        and aching soul
wanted to drop to the ground
                        The same ground we had...
                        she looked around
                        through watery vision
                        fresh grass
                        scent of cherry blossoms
                        whisperered promises
                        delicate touches
                        kisses like...
                        She struggled to forget
                        but would never
                        He watched it all
                        and felt it so deeply
                        Wanting to run
                        after his only love
                        bring her back
                        and never let her go
                        He cleared his throat
                        leaned on his pride
                        surrendered to his doubts
                        and began to walk
                        then run
                        away from her
