At the Ocean

My Daddy takes me to the ocean's feet
I feel a rise of confidence within
Although the waters seem so rough and deep
With Daddy here to hold me I can swim
He's telling me about each wave and cap
I wonder how he knows all that he knows
I point and use my words so he will clap
His hands in praise of me and how I've grown!
My arm rests on his neck for extra strength
I know that he will help me find my nerve
To test the waters with some simple faith
Then leave the nest just like a baby bird
My Daddy's love is deeper than the sea
His heart and spirit live inside of me

Author's note: This poem was inspired by YOU and Lindsay Dawson's painting Father and Son
