4 AM
A distant ringing in my ears
cancels Colin Farrell's delicious kiss -
Yes the bad boys rule
Groggy-eyed I reach for the phone
cold to my feverish cheek
h-h-hellmmmm?
No School, Baby. Go back to bed.
Silently thanking Mother Nature
and my husband's thoughtful ears while driving into work
place the phone into its cradle and fall back to my
pillow -
back to Colin's mischievous smile...
6 AM
Faint giggles fall upon my ears
I open one eye
Three eager grins meet my fuzzy gaze
I poured you a little juice the first one beams
as he hands me a British pint pub glass
overflowing with vitamin c and love
I made you toast says the second one
as he hands me a piece of cold bread
with a speck of butter and a smile
EGG FOR YOUR TUMMY sings the third
as he very carefully hands me one raw, amazingly still
in its shell uncracked egg
and a kiss
I hug each one
Looking out at the swirling blizzard
I feel the warmth not only from my face
but from their hearts
12 PM
We suggle on the sofa under the blankets
Fire crackles and burns colorful contentment
Bamboo trays full of chicken soup, popsicles and cherry
cough syrup
treasures of a being ill on a snow day
Sock covered feet touching
The gentle sounds of softer snowflakes
land outside our window
Happiness surrounds us
in pure white comfort
