Unfinished

I didn't recognize the sun today
hiding behind teardrops from a grey sky
No sounds attempted to take me away
my place of comfort has lost its light
Furrowed brow wrinkled from feeling so scorned
eyes red with acid like pain from no sleep
I'm in denial, all logic is worn
betrayed by promises I thought you'd keep
I walk on the sand, so alone, wet and cold;
"My footsteps left no trace on your soul?"
I see myself growing silent and old
Trapped and unfinished like a hidden pearl
My destiny was to be held and cherished
by your hands alone -- no strangers allowed
to scuff the potential love so polished
enough to shine bright in the dirtiest crowd
The water washes my sadness ashore
and I decide not to love anymore
