Small steps behind me
larger discoveries in view
A path of wonder and nature
excitement and surprises for two
Slight breeze around us
muddy waters, tall trees
Pausing to follow the centepede's journey
Curiosity and fascination for three
Six little hands feel the earth
as they dig deeper for the life
that lives beneath the rotted log -
some mysterious crawling prize
Running further and faster
trying to catch the glowing lights
Crickets lure them into the woods
where mosquitoes wait for the night...
Why does this one fly they ask
and why is this one so green
Answers beget questions
which in turn motivate
a little boy's favorite dream
Squeals and cries of amazement
abound in my heart and smile
Oh, the simple pleasures one can find
When walking a storybook mile
